Eating out / London

Tsuru Sushi Restaurant, Bishopsgate, London

I’ve been working in an office in Broadgate Tower for the last week or two, and was so pleased to find that I’ve got Tsuru Sushi’s Bishopsgate branch right on my doorstep.

As you know, I adore a good chicken katsu curry, so I was excited to give the curry from Tsuru a try.

Just a short stroll from Liverpool Street Station, you’ll have to ensure you get there early to beat the lunch rush of frazzled City bankers queueing for their Japanese fast food fix. But, it’s worth the wait.

Behold:

Tsuru Chicken Katsu Curry

The chicken breast katsu itself was beautifully-crumbed in Japanese panko breadcrumbs and fried until crisp. The bed of sushi rice was generous, and the accompanying carrot and potato was a nice touch. Apparently, Tsuru’s eight-hour curry sauce is freshly-made and contains 16 carefully-balanced ingredients. Great sauce – just not enough of it for my liking – but that’s a small complaint on an otherwise spectacular meal.

At just £6.40, the chicken breast katsu curry makes for a really tasty and filling lunch. I can’t wait to return to sample some of their sushi pieces, the Tsuru menu looks fantastic!
