Eat 17, Walthamstow Village

Sunday afternoons are made for lazy lunches. Eat 17 in Walthamstow Village is a pretty good place to while away the hours if you’re in the area – especially if you’re looking for a great feed for a decent price.

After being seated by the sniffy, uninterested bloke at front of house, we waited an age before being asked to order. I suppose this at least gave us a good opportunity to scour the menu and decide on something delectable from the vast range of ‘tidbits’ – tapas-style plates, larger main dishes and specials. I tossed up between the pulled pork and the duck confit, but finally opted for the buttermilk-fried chicken burger with slaw and aioli, and Mr Q went for the Eat 17 bacon jam cheeseburger – both served with chips.

We split the burgers down the middle and enjoyed the best of both worlds. The Eat 17 Bacon Jam Cheeseburger was good, a little salty due to the Bacon Jam, but good – although it would have been nice to have been given a choice on how the burger was cooked (I like my meat nice and pink). The Buttermilk Chicken Burger was the winner, though, with the tangy slaw setting off the crunch of the chicken nicely. Delicious.

Alongside the burgers, we enjoyed a couple of Luscombe drinks from Devon – Hot Ginger Beer, and a Raspberry Lemonade.

It was a lovely meal, just a shame about the initial service, which seemed to me to be a little surly. But, then again, the food was fabulous and I’d absolutely visit Eat 17 next time for the roast Sunday lunch, these looked amazing from our table!
